We got robbed.....

The funny anesthesia train didn’t pull into the station. I’ve got nothin’! No faraway lands, no treasure maps, no conspiracy theories. C thought his bday was 7.27 instead of 7.26. For about a minute. That’s it. 🤷‍♀️ So we will just have to be satisfied with a successful surgery!

Neuro just came by this morning. He’s had two CT’s since surgery (one post-op, another at 4am). Both look great. He had said immediately after surgery that the brain had popped up nicely this time. Last time it stayed in a midline shift (past center). And you want to see it move back up. They would like to see if it moves a little more, so C will have to stay completely flat until tomorrow. If tonights (so really 4am tomorrow) scan looks good, they will remove the head drain and start to sit him up. So that’s it in a nutshell. Gonna leave it at that, stick with all the positives of surgery, know that this will hopefully do the trick this time, and tackle the platelets as they come.

I did have a walk with the neurosurgeon yesterday where we were able to talk for a few minutes about the surgery, general platelet issues (obviously not his area of expertise), and that C really deserved a win. With that came the brief conversation about AML and it’s complexities and constant curveballs. He said if you put a group of people together in a room and asked them to come up with the most far-fetched scenarios or hypotheticals of things that could happen, they still wouldn’t come close to what AML manages to turn out. And then to paraphrase what he said — What those guys do up there is on a whole other level. There are so many moving parts and it’s such a fine dance. They are a god send. — or something to that effect. And he’s a brain surgeon. I’m pretty sure his field isn’t child’s play. 😳

Anyway, one more day down and some stress lifted! I texted my brother around 630am yesterday morning - frankly, just scared. He didn’t answer the text until what I’m guessing was “the point of no return“ between Austin and Dallas 😉 so that the MUCH YOUNGER sister couldn’t say “no”. Two of my girlfriends came to distract me and make me laugh (and since quarantining ourselves in November to avoid infection, I have barely seen), and of course my Ma. So that was some mental TLC that I didn’t even realize I had needed. ❤️

C is in slumberland right now. Having a little pain from drain so took a low dose hydrocodone and is resting. He has had some good sarcastic zingers and is in perfectly good spirits. Only complaint he has is with a steroid given to keep any brain swelling from happening that can raise insulin levels. Every 4 hours comes the finger prick. 😭 I think he’d prefer the bedside bone marrow biopsy instead.

As always, and from the sincerest place in my heart, thank you for all the support.

Now, go live it up this weekend! Eat some really great Mexican food with a salted rim margarita, hang out with some friends or family having lots of good laughs, commit some embarrassing party fouls, and don’t give our bone-broth-sipping-zipper-head-convalescent or his coffee-guzzling-slightly-highstrung-sidekick a second thought. We are having our own fun without y’all! 😬😳🙄😜.

Hope this finds you all well,

C & A
